On Friday October 30, I will be sleeping rough in Darlinghurst, as part of the Rough Edges, Roughtober campaign.

It costs Rough Edges around $24.50 to feed and provide social services to one person, and they serve over 14,000 meals per year. This is a critical service to our community. Roughtober, is Rough Edges largest and most important fundraising event of the year. Homelessness is a complex problem with many causes, including health, mental health, economic, and safety reasons – more often than not, a combination of these reasons along with many others.

Rough Edges gives people hope, and they help the marginalised return to a more sustainable life. Rough Edges provide social support, along with food in a non-judgmental environment. It is a place where community happens for people experiencing homelessness and marginalisation.

I will be sleeping rough in the outdoor area of my building, which is smack bang at the top of William Street and the Victoria/Darlinghurst Road Intersection which for those who don’t know is a massive wind tunnel.
